Go to college like you are supposed to and get your degree. You cannot get a nursing degree online because you need to take part in clinicals. I would not want a nurse taking care of me who got her degree on some website.

Stop looking for the easy way out. Nursing is challening, there is no way around it.

I would consult the financial times online to check the rankings of MBA programmes. I am currently taking an MBA through Bradford School of Management in the UK. I am doing it through distance education (online), and I know there are students studying in Dubai. www.brad.ac.uk/management
There are lots of options to which university you could attend. I think you need to know how much money you want to spend, what country you want the qualification from, and to also make sure the MBA is from an accreditated university.

I am almost finished with my Bachelors degree in History. I would like to continue on and get my masters in History. I am interested in American Public University's (APU) History program. But can I get a legitimate masters degree from a fully online institution, that when Im finished I would be able to get a job teaching at a community college? APU is fully accredited but Im leary because the only information about them I can find is on their website. It seems like nobody has heard of them. Any help would be appreciated!

I'm interested in the University of Phoenix online programs but I'm not sure if you can earn a master's degree 100% online or if I would have to take actual campus classes first then transfer to finish getting the degree.

I caution you – employers do not look on the U of P MBA and smile. Do you have any other realistic options?

An MBA, even more than most other degrees, is usually one that people get in order to advance their careers. Consider your options carefully. If at all possible, try to attend a program that is accredited by the AACSB. That's a type of professional accreditation that is a mark of high quality.

If it is impossible for you to go to another school – even another online school that's hooked to a more reputable "brick and mortar" university – in other words, if U Phoenix is your only practical choice, then consider them. But don't expect an MBA from there to jump-start your career like a degree from a uni with a better rep would. In fact, to be brutally honest, my past employers would get U of P MBA resumes and toss them. They would not be considered. Thus, I warn you. If you have the opportunity to attend a university with a better rep, then do so.

I have a university in my town (the same one I got my BS from), but the thought of going to class from 6pm until 10 pm after working a full day makes me ill. I'm considering doing the online thing, but wasn't sure how good that looked to an employer.

Online programs are very tough. You must be fully dedicated to the program. There are plenty of online programs out there, even Harvard has some. You may want to look and see whether Boston University Online has a program that would fit your needs.

There are 1000’s – some of the best in the world. Almost everyone is teaching online these days and master’s degrees are ideally suited for distance instruction in many fields.

Stanford, Duke, Johns-Hopkins, Georgetown, Oxford, Columbia, … plenty among the best and way more than a few of the “really good colleges”. Your state U is probably among these – most are now.

I use the search tool at Petersons http://www.petersons.com/distancelearning/code/search.asp but be aware that schools are adding programs all of the time. Sometimes you just have to surf around university web pages to find what you’re looking for.

Don’t expect it to be faster, cheaper, or easier though – you’ll be disappointed. From a good school, online classes are at least as difficult (often more so), cost as much (sometimes more, sometimes less), and take as long as classes in the classroom.

Anyone ever got a Master's Degree online? What are the best online schools?

I'm not good with long standardized tests. Will I have to submit GED scores? I also only have a 2.5 GPA from my B.A. degree. Will that prevent me from getting enrolled. I screwed up on some science course that brought my GPA down, but I'm not dumb. I want to learn and get a good career. Also, are online colleges cheaper to take? And how long is a Master's Program? Thank you for answering. Online courses just make me a little skeptical with the way people rip you off these days.

Getting your masters online is perfectly acceptable if you get it from a tradition university, on your transcripts it will not list anything about getting it online. Do not enroll at one of these career colleges or better known as for-profit schools like University of Phoenix or AIU. These schools have no admission requirements and have a very bad image. I am about to graduate with a BS in Engineering Management, Information Systems and a BS in Mathematics. I am really interested in entrepreneurship and want to eventually go to graduate school.

However, considering this day and age, I'd really like to customize my schedule and possibly take online classes to complete an online masters degree, but I'm not sure if its worth it.

I am afraid that it will be looked down upon by future employers. Is this true?

More and more employers are becoming more accepting of online degrees. However, if you attend an online program at a state university, your employer will never know you obtained the degree online unless you tell them. Usually, online degrees from state universities are no different than the degrees conferred to students who were on campus.

Validity of an online degree depends upon where you get one. The first thing you need to learn about when searching for a school where you can get a degree online is accreditation. There are three levels of accreditation in the U.S. for an entire institution.

1. Regional accreditation – this is accreditation by one of six regional accrediting agencies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Best generalized accreditation a school can get.
2. "National" accreditation – it is not really national, but is called that because the agencies granting these accreditations are regionalized. DETC and ACICS are two examples of "national" accreditors.
3. Unaccredited – completely unacceptable, avoid at all costs.

There are additional accreditations that an institution can get. These are program accreditations. For example, the business program (or school) at an institution can achieve AACSB accreditation. Psychology programs can be accredited by the APA. ABET accredits engineering and technology programs, etc. A school that has a program accreditation for the program in which you are interested is the best accreditation possible.

Minimum accreditation a school you choose should have is regional. It is better if the program you want is also accredited. You can check on the accreditation of any school at two websites. The first is the CHEA (Council for Higher Education Accreditation) http://www.chea.org/search/search.asp
The second is the USDE Office of Postsecondary Education at http://www.ope.ed.gov/accreditation/search.asp

Now that you know something about accreditation, you can start searching for a school. When searching for a school, look at the cost of tuition first. How much does the school charge per credit hour. Then check to see if the school is on the quarter or semester hour system. To change tuition rates from quarter hour to semester hour, divide by 0.67. For example, one school charges $310 per quarter credit hour which is equal to $462.68 per semester credit hour.

If you are looking to get an MBA, one of the best and least expensive online MBA programs in the country is at Mississippi State University. http://www.distance.msstate.edu/mba/ It is AACSB accredited and is $444 per semester credit hour.
