im 13 years old and my daddy has only put 5,000 dollars in my account for college and i dont want to go to college and have to get a side job just to pay for college. im starting highschool next year and i really need to know.please help!!!

I am really broke and I really need money to go to school, I hear people saying it's money that they give you and that you have to PAY BACK.. and some people say that it's free money!!! so financial aid… is it free, or do I have to pay it back??

It can be both ways. It depends on your taxes for last year, they go by your income. You apply for financial aid and then you can be approved for grants, student loans etc. If you do not qualify for grants you can take student loans and pay them back when you finish school.

Contact the financial aid dept of your college. Online is a useless place to find info.

That being said, fill out the FAFSA. It determines if you are qualified for grants.

Also, your school should have a scholarship application that is usually do in early Feb or march. Fill one out.

You fill out the FAFSA and from that they decide what type of aid you are eligible to receive. You may get loans (must be paid back but a lower rate than regular loans) or grants (do not have to be paid back) depending on you and your families financial status.

I'm having issues with financial aid and need money for my classes and a laptop for online classes. I have searched online and have had no luck. If anyone could help I'd be so grateful.

Grant money is some of the hardest money to find. Aside from a few gov't grants (ie. Federal Pell Grant), the rest will be merit based. You're going to need to demonstrate top grades and apply to very competitive grants.

Your best bets will be private student loans. That's going to be the easiest to get and the most common form of financial aid. You aren't going to get any free money unless you can convince a lot of people you're worth the investment.
