Will the Air Force pay for your college education past the bachelor's degree?

How much college benefits does the Air Force give you? After the USAF, I plan on going on to four-year college at Ohio State University, then getting a master's and then a PhD. How much of this will they pay? Am I on my own after I get my bachelor's?

Or am I ridiculous to even think they'd consider paying for graduate school?

When you enroll in school you'll go to their VA department and they'll get you set up with the GI Bill. You will only get the GI Bill for 36 months (a normal 4 years of school.) The money is paid to you, not the school.

I would suggest your first 2 years be at a community college, it costs less. In fact my 1 month of GI bill money was able to pay for 15 credits and all my books. This is at a community college. I have gotten 4 months of money that I don't owe to anyone. You could save this money and then when you go to further your education (which courses cost more) you would still have GI bill money in your bank account to use.

I'm answering as if you're asking about applying while in a foreign country, as it seems that you are.

There are a wide variety of jobs available in a U.S. Embassy. There are some only given to Americans, some only given to Embassy officers' spouses/family members, and some that only local/foreign employees could effectively fill.

Of all of these jobs, the minimum usual qualification is a high school diploma, and some will require bachelors or masters degrees. It all depends on the job.

Yes, you generally need references.

Usually the hardest thing about applying is knowing what jobs are available. Sometimes open jobs are advertised on the Embassy's website, other times in the newspaper (or both, of course). And, most of the jobs have scores of applicants, so you often have an uphill battle just getting a callback.

I don't mean to be discouraging, this is just the reality.

Re: the security check — actually, for most people this is not the hardest part. It may be time-consuming, but unless you have a criminal record, or have some egregious personal problems, it generally goes fine.

I want a degree in seondary education and I want to stay close to home.

The University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) has an excellent reputation in their school of education. They have some of the highest scores on the OGET, OSAT, and OPTE. I graduated from there with a degree in education and I thought that the classes were great. It's not very expensive and the classes are small…some only had about 10 people in them. I assume you are getting a Working Holiday Visa which requires no degree. Many in your case would probably do a stint as a English teacher, the pay is ok if you find an employer that doesn't work you to death, depends on your lifestyle as well. If you find an employer check them out on google for review.

I'm writing a paper about furthering your education and I need some help. I really would like to know how others feel about this subject.

Let me speak from the voice of experience here. I'm 44, married with 2 kids, work 50 hours and am almost finished with my bachelor's degree. I would not have this job without nearing the completion of my college degree.

Before I returned to finish my degree, I was having difficulty finding any type of decent paying job. I finally had to work as a security guard because I could not find anything that paid more than $8.00 per hour and I had several years of experience!! But when you live in Michigan's economy, there are not a lot of job opportunities here.

The college degree opens a lot more jobs to you. Many jobs require bachelors degrees because of the critical thinking skills involved.
