Learning Management System – Conducting the Right Assessment
Studying can now be made easy, thanks to Learning Management Systems which are gaining popularity of late. The performance of medical students has to be assessed carefully and cautiously. This gave rise to the Histology assessment.
There are three things that have an influence on a student’s performance: skill, school and surrounding. All these factors are essential to decide if the assessment can be regarded as a catalyst in the learning process.
One should remember that the method and frequency of assessment in an LMS has an effect on the quality of learning in the student. If the assessment consists of a lot of objective type questions and rote writing of lessons and concepts, it is going to be of no use at all. Similarly, if the assessments are conducted very often, the student would fail to absorb the real content.
Neither of the scenarios spoken about can benefit a student. This is why assessments have to be conducted in a manner that doesn’t affect the student’s knowledge and skills. This would make students understand that assessments are a part of the curriculum and essential to test their knowledge.
A perfect assessment procedure is highly essential in an LMS as it adds value to the course. By reducing the gap between the student’s practical and theoretical knowledge he/she can get full knowledge about the subject. This would be a welcome change as it works in favour of the education system.
This way the teachers get to play an important role in the assessment too. Teachers will thus be able to set proper goals and gather data on ways to make students learn the subject easily and properly.
A Learning Management System concentrates on each and every student and hence only individual tests are conducted instead of group ones. Students can thus get a better idea on the lessons and prepare well. The assessment method can also be modified in such a way that it acts as a morale booster for the students.
These modifications in assessment procedures are caused due to the advancements in teaching. The methods of teaching as well as testing go hand in hand and hence have to be changed simultaneously.
These changes are welcomed by all as the outcome is beneficial for all. By doing this one should never forget the existing system too. These changes are accepted without second thoughts as they only make the module better. It’s important to not disregard traditional methods just because these changes are proving to be fruitful.
